Welcome First Grade Families to the 2009-2010 school
year!
I am the First Grade Learning Specialist which means I
work with small groups of children in the area of reading and I
work with all first grade students in the area of
writing. This year I will also be working with a small group
of students who need extra assistance in math. I organize and run
the Racing Readers program which is a supplemental reading program
that some of the first grade students qualify for.
This is my fourteenth year teaching in the Auburn School
District. This is my eighth year as the First Grade
Learning Specialist at Alpac. Before this position, I
taught Kindergarten for six years (here at Alpac and also at
Chinook Elementary). Instilling the love of literacy in young
learners is one of my greatest passions!
In my spare time I catch every moment I can with my
two boys, Julian (7) and Mason (3) and my husband, Ryan. We
spent this summer enjoying the outdoors and taking vacations to the
coast and to Eastern Washington where we enjoyed water
sports such as; boating and jet-skiing. I also enjoy reading,
gardening,traveling, and of course spending time with friends
and family.
I look forward to meeting you and your children this year as we
work toward meeting the first grade reading and writing standards.
