September, 2009
Dear Parents,
Welcome to 5th Grade! We can all look
forward to many exciting and rewarding experiences as the year
progresses.
I firmly believe that life-long success
depends on self-discipline. To help each child achieve this I have
developed a Classroom Discipline Plan that encourages every
student. I am basing the self-discipline on a quote I am fond
of:
“It takes less time to do a thing right than to explain
why
you
did it wrong.”
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Your child deserves the most positive
educational climate possible for academic growth. Therefore, this
plan will be in effect at all times.
CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS:
1. Follow the directions the first time they are given.
2. Raise your hand and wait to be called on before speaking.
3. Respect Others: *Space *Feelings *Belongings
4. Have supplies at your desk and be ready to work.
5. Use “uplifts” instead of
“put-downs”.
To encourage students to follow the
classroom rules, I will reinforce appropriate behavior with verbal
praise, positive notes, “personal points” that they can
turn in for certain rewards, class rewards and more. Here are the
steps I will follow if a student does not follow the
expectations:
1st Time:
Reminder
2nd Time: Think Time
(problem solving form)
3rd Time: Think Time,
Detention-Parent Contact
4th Time or Severe
Disruption: Sent to Principal or Detention- Parent Contact.
• If a student has a Think Time 2
times in l day or 3 Think Times in 5 days- they will
be assigned
Detention the next day.
• 2 Detentions in 1 week=After School
Detention
• 3 Detentions in 1 week=Friday
School
Please read over the attached sheet
regarding the Think Time Procedures for one trimester. Each
trimester your student will start with a clean slate.
The students have been informed about the
Classroom Discipline Plan, but since you and I are a team working
for your child, I ask that you read the Discipline Plan with your
child, so that we are of a common understanding. I appreciate your
support and look forward to working with you and your child this
year. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to
contact me at school (253-931-4980) or e-mail me at
tminus@auburn.wednet.edu.
Thank you for your time and support,
Toni Minus
