Welcome to
the
Dick Scobee School Counselor
Website!

Hi! My name is Dave Moynihan (students call me Mr.
Moynihan) and I am the school counselor here at Dick Scobee. I
am so excited to be in my third year! It seems like just yesterday
that I was brand new and didn't know anyone...but all the
students, staff, and parents helped me feel so welcome. I
really appreciated that. Dick Scobee is a great school with
wonderful students and staff.
I'm so happy to be
working at Scobee because I believe helping young children feel
valued and cared for, enjoy school and learning, gain
skills in making good choices and dealing with
conflicts, learn to express their needs and feelings in a
safe and respectful way...will help them now and throughout
their lives.
I love seeing children discover all the special things about
themselves--their interests, their dreams, and their abilities...as
they also learn to see the value in those around them, no matter
what background they come from or what they look
like.
When I'm not working at
school, I enjoy cycling, fly fishing, camping, hiking, drinking a
good cup of coffee, working in the yard, and planning adventures
with my wife!
Feel free to contact me at any time!

The Role of School Counselors
Classroom Guidance
School counselors design and
implement classroom guidance lessons on a range of topics, some of
which include problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills,
bullying prevention, and personal safety lessons.
Individual and Group Counseling
School counselors meet students
as individuals and in groups addressing for example, friendship,
divorce, grief and loss, behavior management issues. In addition,
the school counselor assists in crisis intervention and school
success skills.
System Support
School counselors consult with
other school professionals on student issues, assisting and
developing intervention plans. They also provide community
resources for caregivers. In addition, school counselors seek to
improve school climate and implement a school wide bullying
prevention program.
Parent/Caregiver Support
School counselors collaborate
and support parents and caregivers on student issues and provide
needed information on resources.
