Welcome back to School!
About Mrs. Riestra For those of
you who don’t know me, this will be
my 6th year
teaching at Scobee. I
graduated from Western Washington University and recently
earned my Masters Degree in Reading and Literacy. My
husband and I have been married for 3 years now and enjoy spending
time with our families, going to the movies, hiking, and going to
the beach.
My personal belief in education is that parents and teacher
must work together in order to
provide the best educational opportunity for each
child. Even though I
spend many hours with students in my classroom, the learning must
be extended to the home in order to support the teaching that I can
provide. With that
said, I encourage all of you to contact me at any time with
questions, thoughts, ideas, or concerns you might have. That way we can work together as
a team to ensure a successful year for your child.
Our
Classroom This year is also exciting for me
because it will be my second time teaching a split
class. I am very fortunate to have many of the same returning
students in my classroom again this year, along with some new
faces. Even though there will be both 3rd and
4th graders
in my classroom, both sets of students will be responsible for
their own state grade-level standards just as if they were in a
non-split class. Many times in a split class, students are
actually given more challenging work than in a regular classroom
because these students are expected to be independent and work on
their own during different parts of the day. It will be my
responsibility to balance out the curriculum and ensure each
student masters their individual goals and standards.
Binders and Homework Policy Every
student will be required to keep and use a binder each day in class
for assignments and homework. I expect the binder to stay
organized and clean throughout the year. Binders will be
checked regularly for organization. Please do not remove work
from your child's binder unless it has already been
corrected.
Homework is assigned Monday - Thursday. Students will not
receive a grade for homework, but rather receive credit for
completing it and turning it in daily. Calendars will go home
with students along with assignment sheets that show daily work
that is done in class. Students will need to turn in their
assignment sheets every Friday with a parent signature for
credit. Failure to turn in assigned sheets may cause students
to miss recess or make phone calls home.
