Dear Kindergarten Families
Caterpillars are growing in our classroom providing us with
opportunities to observe nature up close. Ants will be
joining us soon! We are recording what we see and
sharing what we are learning with each other.
Reading and Writing I hope you all enjoyed the
'fiction' story your child took home last month.
We had so much fun writing them and reading them
to each other. We have almost completed our random march
through the alphabet and will begin to revisit the vowels and learn
more about them. I am so impressed with all of the reading
and writing the Kindergarten boys and girls are doing
now. They are so excited to write during 'writers'
workshop and during 'Independent reading time' they can engage for
several minutes.
Math and Science We continue to
become more skilled in our understanding of numerals and their
uses. Presently we working on making comparisons
and working on estimating and building our 'constancy'
of number skills as we do story problems and make number sentences
using the numerals.
As we do our science investigations we use numbers and
various tools to measure our predictions. Along with the
critters in our room, we are exploring seeds and how they grow into
plants.
Physical Education We have been working on
tumbling skills and using the scooters to try to move across the
gym floor in different ways and using different parts of our
bodies. Balance activities are an integral part of
this.
