What is the Title/LAP Reading Program?

Title/LAP is a program which provides support for students who are having difficulty with grade level work in the areas of reading and/or math.

How are children selected for the program?

Students in grades kindergarten through five are given reading and/or math assessments. The results are evaluated and, when combined with input from the classroom teacher, are used to determine who will qualify for assistance in reading and/or math.

Some of the perks of your child’s participation are outlined below:

  • Parents Make The Difference monthly newsletter
  • Title/LAP AR library with incentives for student use. Expect your 2nd through 5th grader to be carrying a LAP AR envelope containing a Title/LAP AR book. Students can check out AR books from Title/LAP whenever they have taken a test on their previous book.
  • Summer support materials on request
  • Opportunity to attend a Title/LAP Regional Parent Involvement Summit
  • Title/LAP Parent Library- We even have “Hooked on Phonics” available!
  • Weekly book bags for 1st graders
  • Vocabulary Lists for drill and practice at home
  • Materials to help support your child’s growth as a reader
  • Reading Specialist will attend parent/teacher conferences by request
  • Answers to questions about reading and your child’s progress

Homework Expectations:

Your child will have numerous pieces of Title/LAP homework with a purple parent sign-off sheet attached. These are review activities that truly should only take a minute or two to complete. Be aware that if the homework sign-off comes back home to you, it means I never received your student’s completed work. Once I have received a returned sign-off, you will not see it again. Encourage your students to regularly turn in the sign-offs so that I know they are practicing what has been taught in class.

Missed Time in the Regular Classroom:

Please let me know if your child feels he or she is missing important regular classroom work while in Title/LAP.  I work with the teachers to assure that essential instruction in the regular classroom is not missed.

Opportunities to Observe:

You are welcome to observe the Title/LAP classroom during your child’s session. In the winter months you will be offered a scheduled opportunity to do so. Feel free to observe sooner if you wish.
