Welcome to Lakeland Hill's LAP Reading & Math:
Students receive 30-45 minutes of instruction in reading  K-5 Monday through Thursday during their WTR time.  Instruction includes components from the Big 5:  Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency, and Comprehension. LAP Math is for students in grades three and four.  Students receive 35-45 minutes of extra math instruction Monday through Thursday. 

LAP Compacts:
All of the math compacts have been signed and returned.  We just need a few signatures on reading compacts and we are hoping to get those compacts signed and returned during conference week. 

LAP Conferences:  
I enjoyed meeting with you, talking with you on the telephone, and exchanging e-mails regarding your child's progress.  Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time regarding your child and services received. 

Extended Learning Opportunities:
Primary Intervention for grades one and two takes place during the school day Monday through Thursday for 30 minutes.  It is a pull out program designed to give students another opportunity for learning important reading skills.  We also have a pull out for Kindergarten students on Friday.

What is the Learning Assistance Program?
It is a state-funded program serving students with the greatest deficits in basic academic skills as identified by state assessments.  Basic skills include reading, math, writing, and readiness.

Classroom Rules:

4.  We come to class ready to learn.

LHE Wildcat Bookclub:
We will begin with our second book, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt on November 5th.  This book is a 5.0 book level and it is worth 4 points.  Please have the entire book read by our next meeting date on December 3rd.   This bookclub is available to students in grades 3-5 with a signed permission slip.  Readers should be reading at least at a 4.9 reading level in order to participate.  All reading is done outside of class.  Students must be picked up no later than 4:00.  Readers participating throughout the year will receive a club achievement pin and certificate at the end of the year.   The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan is our next bookclub selection. This is a book level 4,7 and is worth 13 A.R. points.  Please have chapters 1-4 read by our first meeting on December 10th.  Please see document section for permission slip download and syllabus.

After School Wildcat Accelerated Reader Club:
The after school reading club will begin on October 6th for students in grades 2-5  with a signed permission slip.  First graders may join with permission from their classroom teacher.  We will meet in Mrs. Hess' room 400 and sign in.  Reading will also take place in Mrs. Rottle's room across the hall.  Students will need to provide their own reading materials.  Computers will be available for students to complete A.R. tests.  Students must be picked up no later than 4:00.  Readers participating throughout the year will receive a club achievement pin and certificate at the end of the year.
