If you were to imagine a great school, you would likely imagine one that is safe, both physically and emotionally. The school you imagine likely has programs in place to enrich students all along the learning spectrum and certainly is a school whose staff clearly enjoy what they are doing and believe that together, they can make a positive difference in the lives of children. Here at Lake View Elementary, we believe this describes our school. Lake View is a school that strives to be outstanding. Each school year, we set goals in an attempt to improve how well we educate the children and families we serve. We believe that by evaluating our success, we will become better at what we do. This year we continue to accelerate our efforts in student achievement in reading, writing and mathematics. We expect that every child leaving Lake View will be a fluent and comprehending reader, an organized and able writer, and will compute, problem solve and demonstrate computational fluency in mathematics. Toward these ends, we continue as a staff to improve instructional skill and knowledge of the curriculum, as well as address the specific needs of each child in our classrooms by working to meet the goals via classes, workshops and staff development opportunities. Learning is not an isolated event; strong partnerships with parents and the school community is another element that marks Lake View as an outstanding school. Research shows that children whose parents participate in their child’s school experience have a much greater chance for academic success. We welcome your participation in the education of your child. There are many opportunities to volunteer in the classroom as well as at the school in general. Our local PTA is an active organization that works to support the academic opportunity for children and help create the culture of community that pervades the school. The PTA provides many fun and meaningful events that support the academic program here at Lake View. I encourage you to join; many volunteers are needed to make each of these events a success. One thing that parents can do is work to insure that their child is at school each day. If your child has a temperature, vomiting or uncontrolled coughing and sneezing, it is best to keep them at home. It is important otherwise that your child attends school every day. The curriculum is designed to build skill upon skill. When a child misses, it is possible that he or she will miss an important element in this skill-building that will make it difficult to catch up. When a child misses many days, it becomes very difficult to catch up and can have an effect on overall achievement. I look forward to a great year as we work together on behalf of
our greatest resource, our children. Please drop by the office and
