Welcome to our First Grade site! What a wonderful year we
will have!
![]() Before entering the delightful teaching
profession, I worked as an account for several years at the Frank
Russell Company. While there, I was able to participate in
their volunteer tutoring program. We would visit schools and
help students with their reading and math. I loved working
with students so much that I decided to go back to school to become
a teacher.
This is my 10th year teaching. Ten
years ago, I was teaching high school math! I then spent
several years teaching math at the intermediate level. For the
past 4 years, I have worked in Auburn elementary schools --
including our Lea Hill! -- as a math
specialist. I’m thrilled to be teaching first grade at
Lea Hill this year!

I look forward to communicating with
you!
As a positive reinforcement, when a student is
on-task, following directions, showing thoughtfulness, etc., he or
she may receive a Blosser Buck. Once a student accumulates 5
Blosser Bucks, he/she will be able to pick a prize from the
treasure chest during lunch on Friday.
We also have a jar into which I put marbles at certain times when the entire class in on-task and doing a remarkable job. Once the jar is filled with marbles, we celebrate their good work with a popcorn party! We have 3 rules in our class.
I listen quietly. I keep my hands and feet to myself. I use my manners. We use think time at Lea Hill as a way for students to refocus and change negative behaviors. If a student is not following rules, he/she will receive a warning and a signal to make a better choice. If he/she continues with his/her negative behavior, he/she will be sent to think time. Think Time occurs in another 1st or 2nd grade teacher’s classroom, and the process usually takes anywhere from about 5 – 10 minutes. Sticking with our clear and consistent boundaries
will help our children feel safe and comfortable and will increase
their learning success.
Thank you for going over these rules and
consequences with your student and for supporting their learning
environment!
We have 2 main forms of homework.
First, there is our weekly homework. This packet will go home every Monday and will be due the last school day of that week. The homework will focus on the story we are reading that week, trimester math skills, and trimester reading skills. Second, I ask that your child reads 5 - 10 minutes
a night. Each month I’ll be sending home a
calendar to record your reading time with your child. If your
child returns that calendar with your signature and recorded
reading time at the end of the month, he/she will get to pick a
bookmark and will get a packet of hot chocolate for some cozy
reading!
There will also be times during the year that we
will send home special homework/fun class books.
Volunteers are essential to our class! Thank
you, thank you, thank you for volunteering!! I will be
contacting you soon. Thank you for signing up or letting us
know if you want to volunteer!
