                          6th grade Math

 Date  Announcement
11/12 Conferences:
Yes, we have conferences next week.  However, unlike elementary school, you do not sign up for them.  These will be areana style --  meaning that during the times of Wed and Friday morning 7:30-10:00and Thursday evening from 4-7 you may drop by your child's classes to see the teacher.  The teacher will try to keep to about 10 minutes for each parent.  Please be courteous and try to also keep to the 10 minutes.  If additional time is needed, perhaps this can be arranged at the conference time.
10/20 GRADES:
If you have recently been on skyward, you may have noticed a huge chunk of grades entered.  These grades represent your student's first assessment.  Because Mr. Butler and I grade by standards, all assessments are broken up into the standards that we are testing on.  The first test was over standard 6.6 which has 5 components.  Students grades reflect how well they showed they understood the standards when applying it to a problem.
B -- students showed they could do the problem with out assistance and complete the problem accurately
C -- students showed they had some understanding but could not complete the problem accurately or without assistance
D -- students do not understand the concept yet.

All students will be re-testing this week.  Those who continue to show understanding will be moved to an A.  All students will continue to work on achieving an A or B whether they continue testing during lunch, before, after, or during special Friday time.  NO STUDENTS will be allowed to fail.
9/15  Students in my regular math classes are expected to know their multiplication tables by the end of November. Students will receive daily practice with them but are also expected to practice at home as well. Honors math will have until the end of October to have their multiplication facts memorized. Proof will be measured by passing at least the A and B versions of the multiplication practice quizzes. If students wish to practice the quizzes at home, they can be found in the documents section.
9/24

ZAP will begin this coming WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th.
Philosophy:  All students deserve the right to learn and practice what they are learning.
Procedure:
If a student does not complete their homework/classwork they may show they understand the material in the form of a quiz.
If they do not pass the quiz, they MUST finish the homework/classwork.
If they do not finish the work, they will be asked to call the parents and stay after school until 3:00 pm to finsh the work.  The work will be collected and returned to me for a grade.
Expectations:
Students will work while they are in ZAP.
Work must meet classroom expectations.
Students must respect the adults who are leading ZAP.

Please support the school by making sure that your child attends ZAP when scheduled.  We appreciate your working with us to help your child succeed.
