Welcome to 3rd/4th
Grade!
Dear Parents and Students,
Hello! My name is Anna Grant, and I am so glad to meet
you. I have been teaching third grade at Terminal
Park for 15 years, and just love it. This year I have the
opportunity to teach both 3rd and 4th graders, in
our ¾ split. I can’t wait to begin a new
year with a wonderful group of students and their families. There
are, of course, a few things I will miss about summer break; like
vacationing with my family, eating too much of Olive Garden’s
“Black Tie Mousse Cake”, and not setting an alarm
clock. But.. there are numerous adventures ahead of us, and
I’m sure we’ll be able to adjust to some new routines
together.
My husband Jeff and I have two beautiful daughters, Jadyn (9
½ years old) and Madyson (8 years old).
They love reading, roller coasters, swimming, and
vacations. Along with their common interests, they are also
unique. Jadyn is outgoing and all sports, while Madyson tends
to be more reserved and is passionate about animals. We also
have a curious cat named Puddles.
I look forward to meeting and getting to know each of
you. Please take the time to share some unique qualities about
your child on the student information page, so that I can discover
new and interesting ways to reach him/her. If you have any
questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to get in touch with
me. I can be reached by email at: agrant@auburn.wednet.edu, by phone
at: 253-931-4978, or by appointment.
I would also like to be able to stay in contact with each of
you. There are many times when students
accomplish some new task worthy of praise, show great character, or
need a little help. Email is a quick way to send a note off to
you. If you don’t have access to email, would you let me
know the best phone number to reach you with? (see attached
page)
Thank you,
Anna Grant
Expectations
Practicing Love and
Logic
I will treat you with
respect, so you will know how to treat me.
Feel free to do anything
that doesn’t cause a problem for anyone else.
If you cause a problem, I
will ask you to solve it.
If you can’t solve the
problem, or choose not to, I will do something.
What I do, will depend on
the special person, and the special situation.
If you feel something is
unfair, whisper to me, “I’m not sure that’s
fair,” and we will talk.
Homework
I will be sending home a weekly homework
packet. Our homework packet will always go home on Monday, and
will be due on Friday (unless the week ends on a
Thursday). Students will need to complete an assortment
of math, reading, spelling, and writing practice. Our first
homework packet will go home on Monday, September
14th.
Accelerated
Reader
Students are required to read in
their leisure time and in class for Accelerated Reader. Third
graders need to earn a minimum of 5 AR points a month. Fourth
graders need to earn a minimum of 10 AR points a month. They
do this by reading books at home and at school, then taking
comprehension tests on the computer to demonstrate that they
understand the books they’ve read. AR books are
available at school and at the public library. The AR book
list is located on the TP website at www.auburn.wednet.edu—click on the
school website, then Terminal Park, and then the AR book
list.
Raffle
Tickets
Students will receive raffle tickets each month for demonstrating
responsibility and achievement in class. At the end of each month,
we will raffle off a prize. We have quite an assortment of
prizes to choose from.
Water
Bottles
We don’t have a sink or drinking fountain in our
room. You may bring a water bottle from home, labeled with
your name. You can keep it on your desk to use as
needed.
Binders
All students are required to have a
backpack and a 3 ring binder with a pencil pouch, paper, erasers,
and pencils. Binders should have 5 dividers labeled as
follows:

A Little Encouragement From You Goes A Long Way “I
got two A’s,” the small boy cried.
His father very bluntly asked,
“Why didn’t you get
three?”
“Mom, I’ve got the dishes done,”
the girl called from the door.
Her mother very calmly said,
“Did you sweep the floor?”
“I’ve mowed the grass,” the tall boy
said,
“and put the mower away.”
His father asked him with a shrug,
“Did you clean off the clay?”
The children in the house next door
Seem happy and content.
The same thing happened over there,
But this is how it went:
“I got two A’s,” the small boy
cried.
His voice was filled with glee.
His father very proudly said, “That’s
great;
I’m glad you belong to me.”
“Mom, I’ve got the dishes done,”
the girl called from the door.
Her mother smiled and softly said,
“Each day I love you more.”
“I’ve mowed the grass,” the tall boy
said,
“and put the mower away.”
His father answered with much joy,
“You’ve made my happy day.”
Children deserve a little praise
For tasks they’re asked to do.
If they’re to lead a happy life,
SO MUCH DEPENDS ON YOU!

Volunteers
We can use you
and your talents. You don’t need to have any special
training, just a willingness to work in the classroom. There
are a variety of opportunities available. Look at the list
below. If you are willing and able, just put a check next to
any options that interest you. I will send you a Washington
State Patrol form to fill out, and get in touch with you to
schedule a time to begin.
(All
classroom volunteers are required to submit a Washington State
Patrol form before working with students in the
classroom. These forms are valid for 2 years. You may
already have one on file.)

Which day of the week and time of
day work best for you?
___________________________________________________
With busy schedules both at home
and at work, working in the classroom during the week may not be an
option for you. You can also support your son or daughter by
helping them set aside a time each day (20-30 minutes) to do their
homework, by reading with your child each day, or by talking with
them about what they are learning in class.
