“If you were preparing
breakfast for children, the school library would be the milk on the
cereal or the butter on the bread. They’re an integral
part of education.”
David Loerscher, Professor, San Jose
University
Terminal Park’s
Library
Our library has numerous picture books (also
referred to as “Everybody books”), fiction chapter
books, non-fiction books and magazines from which to
choose. We also have a lot of Accelerated Reader books for
students to borrow. A.R. books have a blue sticker on the
spine. Each book is marked with the reading level and point
level.
Lessons on book handling, parts of the book,
story grammar, Dewey decimal system, researching, intelligent web
usage, book genres, making a book bag, using the computer catalog,
choosing good literature, and other library skills will be taught
throughout the year.
Parents may sign up for a Terminal Park library
card and check out some of the wonderful parenting material in the
parent/teacher resource library section or any of our other books
to read to themselves or to their kids. It is important for your children to see you read
for your own enjoyment and reading aloud to your kids makes bedtime
more fun.

The Global Reading
Challenge
The global reading challenge is run by the Washington
State Librarians. Each school can enter a team of seven
readers in the fourth or fifth grade who will read a group of 10
chapter books chosen by the Global Reading Challenge
organizers. The books are given out in November and the first
“challenge” or contest is held in March. The teams
listen to questions from the books and submit their written answers
for points. The team with the most points wins the Auburn
level and goes on to compete in the state level. The kids who
participated last year really enjoyed it. Look on the
DOCUMENTS page for worksheets for GRC.

ALMANIA!
This is a team Jeopardy style game using the
World Almanacs. It will be held in the spring
after the students have gained confidence in using the World
Almanacs. The students compete against one another to become
the “T.P. Almaniac Champions”. They will compete
against other Auburn elementary schools.
