![]() Welcome to the Reading Room! My name is John Harlor and my job is to support all students and staff at Terminal Park with the most current research-based research and instructional support in reading. I have a diverse background, including a master of science in reading and literacy from Walden University, a bachelor of science in chemistry from the University of Puget Sound, a certificate in teaching in low income and urban schools from the University of Washington, and have recently completed National Board Certification. I also have twenty years business experience, have both scored and written the WASL, have served on several AuburnSchool District committees, and have a passion for reading. It is my pleasure to serve the students and staff of Terminal Park with four of the most knowledgeable and experienced Para-educatiors in the AuburnSchool District: Mrs. Smay, Mrs. Meckle, Ms. Ringler, and Mrs. Wert. The
reading room serves two primary duties:
First, we go into classrooms to to create small group reading opportunities, allowing teachers to provide individualized, targeted reading instruction for our students. Second, we provide students that are not meeting state and district reading standards with additional intensive targeted learning opportunities through individual or small groups instruction. Reading instruction was never intended to take place only at school. Parents play a vital role in supporting what takes place at school. Do you need help with ideas to support your child's reading at home? Please contact me by phone (253) 931-4978, or email jharlor@auburn.wednet.edu if you have questions, need books or other reading materials, or have concerns about your child's reading performance. By working together, we can ensure that your child will succeed as a reader.
