In music class, I want students to open their hearts and minds to a variety of music styles. We hear music every day, but rarely take the time to fully understand it. In class, we discuss the music that we listen to and try to appreciate it, even if it isn't our favorite style.

I want students to understand their own culture in relationship to the past. For that reason, we study the music from the Middle Ages to the present.

We also learn to read music by learning to play the recorder in 3rd and 4th grade.
